MISSION

Our mission is to create a community of women in science, medicine, and healthcare that shares knowledge, builds connection and leverages its collective resource to better our own personal and professional lives, as well as the lives of those around us.

EVOLUTION

The motivation for starting this group comes from watching the political events in the world around us in late 2016, and witnessing how quickly the status of women, the strength of science, and advancements in healthcare can unravel, when taken for granted. Having a similar paradigms operate in our own personal and professional lives fortified this motivation.

As a start, we attended the March on Washington.  It was inspiring to see the streets filled with the faces of women, and for a day society resonant with their voices.  With millions assembled worldwide, there could have been violence, yet instead train cars of women sung lullabies to crying children, and power and peace co-existed. There at the March, and thereafter, many of us asked how we keep that ethos alive.

Our hypothesis is simple:  We bring out the best in ourselves by sharing ourselves with others, and caring for those around us.

PHILOSOPHY

We aim to overtly maintain a relationship-oriented structure, using use the relations between us are the core building blocks for growth.

When we look at the course of history, it is relationships between people that persist and are stable – friends, neighbors and family endure while economies, corporations and governments rise and fall.  Thus, it is important that in this era, that we stay connected to one another.

IMAGERY

We came up with the image of needle and thread - basic tools that are used to forge connections, strengthen ties and to mend and repair. The image also serves as an elevation of women’s work to a higher social stratum.
